Description of key information
No data on wash oil itself is available. Acenaphthene, a key component of wash oil, has been adopted as marker. Toxicity values have been located for estuarine sediment only.

Additional information
No experimental data is available for creosote oil, acenaphthene fraction (wash oil) itself. Thus, information originating from the marker substance acenaphthene (for justification of selection see Chapter 7.1.) is used as substitute in order to characterise long-term effects of wash oil on sediment organisms.
The toxicity values had originally been produced in sediment containing 3 % organic carbon, using Rhepoxynius abronius, a freeburrowing, marine infaunal amphipod (Swartz et al., 1997). The indicated LC50 and LC10 data have been "normalised" by recalculating them to a standard carbon content of 10 %.
