Description of key information

Prone to formation of peroxides.

Additional information

Ethers are well known to react with atmospheric oxygen to form peroxides and hydroperoxides on storage. The autooxidation occurs by a free radical mechanism, which is catalysed by light or the presence of impurities (Clark, D.E., Chemical Health Safety, 2001, Sep - Oct, 12 - 22). Explosive levels of peroxides can form on concentration.
