Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
-6 °C

Additional information

The study by Shell Research Ltd (1996) was selected as the key study because it was conducted to a standard guideline and was GLP compliant. The flash point of 2,4,4-trimethylpentene is -6 °C. This is the mean of three tests. This result is supported by data from the CRC Handbook (Lide 2008), which gives a flash point of -5°C. 2,4,4 -trimethylpentene is a liquid and room temperature and on the basis of the boiling point (102°C) and flash point (-6°C) it will receive a classification of Category 2, hazard statement 'highly flammable liquid and vapour'.
