Endpoint:
activated sludge respiration inhibition testing
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is highly insoluble in water, hence indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with REACH Annex VIII, Section 9.1.4, column 2, an activated sludge respiration inhibition test does not need to be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that microbial toxicity is unlikely to occur such as the substance is highly insoluble. This substance has a water solubility of 0.14 μg/L (Jungheim, 2017), so is considered highly insoluble. Additionally, the suite of studies conducted for ready biodegradability confirm no toxicity of the substance to sewage sludhe organisms at the limit of solubility. It is therefore concluded that this substance is not hazardous to microorganisms.

Description of key information

In accordance with REACH Annex VIII, Section 9.1.4, column 2, an activated sludge respiration inhibition test does not need to be conducted if there are mitigating factors indicating that microbial toxicity is unlikely to occur such as the substance is highly insoluble.  This substance has a water solubility of 0.14 μg/L (Jungheim, 2017), so is considered highly insoluble.  Additionally, the suite of studies conducted for ready biodegradability confirm no toxicity of the substance to sewage sludge organisms at the limit of solubility.  It is therefore concluded that this substance is not hazardous to microorganisms.
