Conclusion on classification

Classification related key information

Biodegradation: not readily biodegradable

Bioaccumulation: No significant bioaccumulation in biota is expected based on a log Pow of 1.43

 Acute toxicity:

-             Fish: LC50 (96 h): >2000 mg/L

-            Aquatic invertebrates: EC50 (48 h): 58 mg/L

-            Algae: EC50 (growth rate) = 118 mg/L

Chronic toxicity:

-       Algae: EC10 (72 h): 9.4 mg/L

Conclusion on classification

Chloroethane (CAS 75-00-3) is not readily biodegradable. The substance has a low potential for bioaccumulation. The most sensitive acute aquatic toxicity L(E)C50 values is 58 mg/L for Daphnia magna.Adequate chronic data are not available. Thus the substance needs to be classified as chronic 3 according to the 6th ATP of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP).
