Four guideline studies on the toxicity of Beta-Ionon on aquatic invertebrates are available. The key results were obtained by a study performed in compliance with OECD guideline 202 including analytical dose verification. Daphnia magna was exposed to Beta-Ionon for 48 hours and an EC50 of 4.03 mg/l based on nominal concentrations was determined (BASF AG, 2004). In a screening study following EEC Directive 93/32/EEC an EC50 > 1 mg/l was determined after 48 hours (BASF AG, 2004). Two further studies investigating the toxicty of Beta-Ionon on D. magna in accordance to German standard DIN 38412 part L11 are available. The test animals were either single bred or bred in massculture. For the single-bred Daphnia an EC50 of 1.09 mg/l was determined and a comparable EC50 of 1.05 mg/l was determined. However, in both studies a solubiliser was used (BASF AG, 1990).
