Description of key information

Solid potassium cyanide is commercially provided as particles too large to be respired.

Additional information

Potassium cyanide is provided in the form of bricks and granules. An intermediate form of cyanide salt is produced as a powder during the manufacturing process. There are 2 processes (A and B) which can be used to make a powder. Neither process generates particles which are small enough to be respirable into the deep lung (5 microns diameter). The mean diameter of particles manufactured according to Process A is between 180 and 355 microns, and in process B, between 40 and 180 microns. Less than 8% of particles generated by process B are under 40 microns, so only an insignificant amount would be below 5 microns.
