Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Toxicity to soil microorganisms

Administrative data

Endpoint:
toxicity to soil microorganisms
Data waiving:
exposure considerations
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because direct and indirect exposure of the soil compartment is unlikely
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
In accordance with the ECHA Guidance on Information Requirements and Chemical Safety Assessment, Chapter R.7c (version 3.0; pages 134-135): in the case of readily biodegradable substances which are not directly applied to soil it is generally assumed that the substance will not enter the terrestrial environment and as such there is no need for testing of soil organisms. As this substance is readily biodegradable and is not directly applied to soil there is no need for testing of soil organisms.
In addition, in accordance with REACH Annex IX, section 9.4, column 2, the study toxicity to soil microorganisms is waived as it is considered justified to determine the toxicity to soil organisms by the equilibrium partitioning method and as the results of the chemical safety assessment do not indicate the need to investigate further the effects of the substance on soil organisms. The soil compartment is considered not to be a relevant compartment in the environmental risk assessment of this substance (but the water compartment) as the substance is readily biodegradable, has a high water solubility and a low octanol-water partition coefficient. The soil compartment is not relevant because of the low potential of adsorption of the product to soil.
