Additional information

The determination of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/water) of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE was based on the following guidelines: NOTOX Project 453926 OECD guidelines for testing of chemicals no.107: "Partition coefficient (n-octanol/water): Shake Flask Method", Adopted July 27, 1995. EEC directive 92/69 EEC, Part A, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A.8: "Partition coefficient", EEC Publication no. L383, December 1992.

A preliminary test was performed for a preliminary estimation of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/water), Pow, of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE. Based on the result of this method, it was decided to perform the Flask-shaking method without buffering of the aqueous phase (the test substance is ionized at each pH value) for an accurate determination of the partition coefficient.

Main test: Double distilled water was used as the aqueous phase in the n-octanol/water test system. The test was performed at 20.1 ± 0.5 °C. Under the conditions of the test, the partition coefficient (n-octanollwater), Pow, of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE was determined to be 4.8 * 10-4 (log Pow = -3.3). Actual pH of the aqueous phase was 7.1.

Conclusion: The Pow of FORMAMIDOPROPYLBETAINE is 4.8 * 10E-4 (log Pow = -3.3) at 20.1 ± 0.5 °C and pH 7.1.
