Additional information

According to key study results of toxicity tests on invertebrates, algae and microorganisms, low toxicity to aquatic organisms was observed (LC50 values >100 mg/L). Fish showed more sensitivity towards 1-chlorobutane with an LC50(96h) of 75.6 mg/L (nominal).

In a chronic study under semi-static conditions, the NOEC(21d) for Daphnia magna resulted in a value of 5.6 mg/L (nominal). The NOECr(72h) for algae was found at 90 mg/L (nominal).

Due to the environmental fate of 1-chlorobutane (volatility, hydrolysis, photodegradation), a low risk of aquatic toxicity is estimated for the substance. Acute and chronic tests show toxicities of 1-chlorobutane far in excess of natural occurring concentrations and additionally the substance will readily disappear from the water body.
