Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

It is laid down in the REACh Regulation EC 1907/2006 annex X, section 9.6.1., column 2, that "any need for testing should be carefully considered taking into account the large mammalian dataset that is usually available at this tonnage level”. This endpoint allows to consider potential secondary poisoning issues to birds following chronic exposure to BPA (1-4.5 EO) via the fish and earthworm food chains. BPA (1-4.5 EO) has a low potential for bioaccumulation and has no potential to cause toxic effects if the substance is accumulated in higher organisms via the food chain. In particular, according to CLP regulation EC 1272/2008, BPA (1-4.5 EO) is not considered H360, H361, H362, H372 or H373. BPA (1-4.5) does not fulfill the T criterion of REACh regulation either. Considering all those elements, and in accordance with ECHA's guidance document R.16 on Environmental Exposure Assessment (v3.0 ; Feb 2016; pp. 24-25), one can safely conclude that there is no concern for secondary poisoning with BPA (1-4.5 EO). Consequently, this study is waived.
