Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
5-9 Dec 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning time (test type not further specified)
Remarks:
or specified in description of method (migrated information)
Remarks on result:
other: The substance did not burn in the preliminary test

Preliminary screening test:

The sample train can be ignited: yes

The combustion propagates along less than 100 mm: yes

The combustion propagates along more than 100 mm: no

The combustion propagates along 200 mm with: not applicable

Burning rate test must be done: no

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
other justification
Justification for data waiving:

Description of key information

non flammable
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The substance is non-flammable as determined in the test according to EU A.10. Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected. The classification procedure for self-heating substances or mixtures need not be applied if the results of a screening test can be adequately correlated with the classification test and an appropriate safety margin is applied. An example of screening tests is the Grewer Oven test (VDI guideline 2263, part 1, 1990, Test methods for the Determination of the Safety Characteristics of Dusts). The ASTM E659 -78 (2005) test performed with the substance can be interpreted in analogy to the Grewer Oven test. Therefore the substance is not self-heating on the basis of the screening test and above considerations.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The available data on flammability of the test substance do not meet the criteria for classification according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 or Directive 67/548/EEC and are therefore conclusive but not sufficient for classification:

No propagation of burning in a test according to EU method A.10.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

Based on the fact that the ASTM E659 -78 (2005) test performed with the substance can be interpreted in analogy to the Grewer Oven test, the substance is not self-heating.
