In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex IX, Section 9.2 and 9.2.1.2, Column 2, the simulation test on ultimate degradation in surface water does not need to be conducted as the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates that there is no need to investigate further the degradation of the substance and its degradation products. The test item and the hydrolytic products were assessed. The test item is poorly biodegradable and hydrolyses slowly (pH7, 25°C diester 51 days and monoester 68 days) with increasing pH value, the hydrolysation process is faster (pH9, 25 °C diester 4 days; monoester 3 days).  Via several further hydrolysis steps finally sebacic acid (111-20-6), which is readily biodegradable and 1,2,2,6,6-pentamethylpiperidin-4-ol (2403-89-6) are formed. The latter is inherently biodegradable and has a BCF of 2.68 L/kg ww.


Moreover, the risk characterization ratios (RCRs) of the chemical safety assessment are below 1, demonstrating the safe use of the substance throughout its lifecycle. Therefore, no simulation studies in soil are provided.
