key study
Study period:
14th December 2010 to 18th February 2011
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Study conducted in compliance with agreed protocols, with no or minor deviations from standard test guidelines and/or minor methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of the relevant results. The study report was conclusive, done to a valid guideline and conducted under GLP conditions.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.15 (Auto-Ignition Temperature (Liquids and Gases))
Deviations:
not specified
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: DIN 51794 Determination of igniton temperature
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
no
Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): 1-phenylethyl acetate
- Physical state: colourless to pale yellow liquid
- Name of test material (as cited in study report): Gardenol
- Lot/batch No.: VE00123242
- Expiration date of the lot/batch: 14th January 2013
- Givaudan code number: 5360001
Auto-ignition temperature:
> 450 °C
Remarks on result:
other: At the highest temperature tested of 450 ºC, no ignition was observed.
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of the test, the auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was determined to be > 450 ± 10 ºC.
Executive summary:

In a non-GLP compliant auto-ignition temperature study conducted in line with standardised guidelines EU Method A.15 and DIN 15794 'Determination of ignition temperature', the auto-ignition temperature of the test substance was determined to be > 450 ± 10 ºC.

Description of key information

The auto-ignition temperature of 1-phnylethyl acetate was determined to be >450 ± 10 ºC according to a study performed in line with EU Method A.15 and DIN 51794.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
450 °C

Additional information

The key study (Givaudan, 2011g) was conducted in line with standardised guidelines but not to GLP with a sufficient level of detail to assess the quality of the study. The study was performed to a sufficient standard in line and was assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with Klimisch (1997).
