Description of key information

Acute oral

LD50 male rats = 782 mg/kg bw
LD50 female rats= 716 mg/kg bw

Acute inhalation

Induction of 5% MetHb formation in dogs = 165 mg/m3 air

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
716 mg/kg bw

Acute toxicity: via inhalation route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
discriminating conc.
Value:
165 mg/m³ air

Additional information

The test substance -like aniline- is readily absorbed irrespective the route of administration. Further, the symptoms and effects observed are similar for all routes of administration and identical to those observed after acute exposure to aniline.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the fact that the test substance is toxic irrespective the route of administration it is justified that the current classification includes "acute toxic" for all three routes.
