Additional information

Short term toxicity to fish

Short term (96 hr) toxicity to fish (Pimephales promelas) by benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid gave a predicted LC50 value of 352.955 mg/L; indicating that benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid is unlikely to cause short term aquatic toxicity to fish within the concentration range mentioned in this end point.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The effective concentration (EC50) value of benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid in aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia magna) in a 48 hr study on the basis of Intoxication effect was found to be 186.094 mg/L. Thus, considering the CLP Criteria for aquatic classification of the substance, it is concluded that benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid does not exhibit short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrate (Daphnia magna) within the dose level mentioned in the end point.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

The 96 hrs EC50 value of Benzidine-2,2’-disulphonic acid in green algae was estimated to be 403.167 mg/L on the basis of growth. This value indicates that the substance Benzidine-2,2’-disulphonic acid have no toxic effect on aquatic algae and cyanobacteria within the dose level mentioned in the end point.

Toxicity to micro-organisms

The IG50 value of Benzidine-2,2’-disulphonic acid in microorganism (Tetrahymena pyriform) based on growth inhibition effect was estimated to be 269.1614 mg/L.
