Description of key information

non-oxidising substance, EU Method A.17, Mclean 2012

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
no

Additional information

An oxidising properties test was performed according to EU Method A.17 and under GLP conditions. The preliminary test showed that the test material caught fire and produced a vigorous reaction and the flame was observed to produce soot. The preliminary screening test was repeated because the initial preliminary test did not have a positive control test performed with it. During the repeat preliminary screening test, the cone of test substance caught fire and produced a slow burning, sooty flame. When this burn was compared to the rapid and vigorous reaction of the barium nitrate positive control performed at the same time, the test substance clearly could not be defined as an oxidizer. No further testing was deemed necessary.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The substance does not meet classification criteria under EU Directive 67/548/EEC as oxidising.

The substance does not meet classification criteria under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 as oxidising.
