Two OECD Guideline ready biodegradation studies are available for 1,4 -cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid (CHDA). In the key study using OECD 301B, Ready Biodegradability C02 Evolution Test, the test item attained 103% degradation after 28 days and satisfied the 10-day window validation criterion. An older supporting study conducted using the OECD Guideline 301 E (Ready biodegradability: Modified OECD Screening Test) was conducted using two replicates which exhibited significant varibility. One replicate exhibited 89% degradation based upon DOC removal and met the 10-day window criterion, while the second replicate only achieved 61% degradation within 28 days. The mean 28% day degradation value for this study was 75%. Based upon these studies CHDA is considered to be readily biodegradable.
