Description of key information

Highly flammable upon ignition
The substance has no pyrophoric properties and does not liberate flammable gases in contact with water.
The substance is not a self-heating substance or mixture.
The substance is not a self-reactive substance or mixture.
The substance is not an organic peroxide.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
highly flammable

Additional information

Flammability derived from flash point and boiling point. The Flash point of the substance was determined to be -18 °C (IUCLID section 4.11) and the boiling point (IUCLID section 4.3) was determined to be 81 °C. Thus, the substance was classified as flammable liquid cat.2. H225 (highly flammable liquid and vapour).

Based on chemical structure pyrophoric properties and flammability in contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-reactive as the estimated SADT is greater than 75 °C. (Please refer to IUCLID section 4.19).

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as self-heating as the substance is a liquid.

The substance or mixture does not need to be classified as an organic peroxide as by definition based on their chemical structure the substance is no organic peroxide.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dangerous Substance Directive (67/548/EEC)

Based on the chemical structure, the study results and taking into account the provisions laid down in Directive 67/548/EEC, as amended for the 31st time in Directive 2009/2/EG, the substance is classified as R11, F highly flammable and not considered to be classified as flammable in contact with water or pyrophoric.

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008

Based on the chemical structure, the study results and taking into account the provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, as amended for the sixth time in Regulation (EC) No 605/2014, the substance is classified as flammable liquid cat 2 H225 and not considered to be classified as, flammable in contact with water, pyrophoric, self heating substance, self-reactive substance or organic peroxide.
