2,2’-oxydiethanol, ethoxylated and propoxylated (>1<4.5 EO and >1<4.5 PO) is an essentially non-volatile liquid at room temperature (vapor pressure 0.000386 hPa at 20°C), fully miscible with water and with a log P of (<0.3 at 25°C). There are no experimental studies on the toxicokinetics of 2,2`-oxydiethanol, ethoxylated and propoxylated (>1<4.5 EO and >1<4.5 PO). The information on the toxicokinetics of 2,2’-oxydiethanol, ethoxylated and propoxylated (>1<4.5 EO and >1<4.5 PO) is based on the information for 2,2`-oxydiethanol and propane-1,2 -diol and oligomers of propane-1,2 -diol.

The toxicokinetics of 2,2’-oxydiethanol and of propane-1,2-diol and its propoxylated oligomers have been examined in Illing and Barrat (2007 revised 2009). 2,2’-oxydiethanol, ethoxylated and propoxylated (>1<4.5 EO and >1<4.5 PO) can be reliably included into this read-across.

Propane-1, 2-diol is both a core substance (initiator) and a repeating unit. The information on the toxicokinetics of 2,2’-oxydipropanol, ethoxylated and propoxylated (>1<4.5 mol EO and >1<4.5 mol PO) (the NLP polyol) is based on the information for ethane-1,2-diol and its dimer (2,2’-oxydiethanol) and trimer and propane-1,2-diol and its dimer (1 mol propoxylated propane-1,2-diol) and trimer (2 mol propoxylated propane-1,2-diol). Propoxylated side chains are considered to be representatiove for ethoxylated and/or ethoxylated and propoxylated side chains. Oxydiethanol has two hydroxy groups, thus oligomers are considered to be core substances with chains of between one and three repeating units. Commercial material contains a range of ethoxylated and/or propoxylated oxydiethanols.
