Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Additional information

Abiotic degradation:

The hydrolysis study was waived in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, as it is not needed for readily biodegradable substances as 2-methyglutaric acid.

Biotic degradation:

An experimental study, scored as Klimisch 1, was selected as a key study. It was performed in compliance with GLP according to OECD 301D test guideline. During this test, 63.9 % biodegradation (based on O2 consumption) were reached and the 10-day window criterion was fulfilled; meaning that 2-methylglutaric acid is readily biodegradable. On this basis, no further investigation of biotic degradation is needed.

Bioaccumulation:

The bioaccumulation study was waived in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, as it is not needed for substances with low n-octanol/water partition coefficient as 2-methyglutaric acid (log Kow < - 1.3 at pH = 7).

Adsorption/desorption:

Due to the requirements of another regulation than REACH (Chinese notification), an experimental study was conducted. It was scored as Klimisch 1 and was selected as a key study. It was performed in compliance with GLP according to OECD 106 test guideline applying the batch equilibrium method to five soils. The mean Koc determined for 2-methylglutaric acid in these five soils is 2837; corresponding to a mean log Koc of 3.15.
