Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

UV-VIS spectrophotometry was used to determine the molar absorption coefficient (ɛ):

In neutral test solution :

ɛ= 10600 L/mol/cm at λmax 244 nm

ɛ= 950 L/mol/cm at λmax 280 nm

In acidic test solution :

ɛ= 10700 L/mol/cm at λmax 245 nm

ɛ= 990 L/mol/cm at λmax 280 nm

In basic test solution :

ɛ= 10600 L/mol/cm at λmax 245 nm

ɛ= 980 L/mol/cm at λmax 280 nm

No detectable absorption was found from 380 up to 900 nm

There is a second shoulder at 330 nm in all spectra (netral, acid, basic), which is very faint with about 100 L*cm-1*mol-1. Because of the low and scattering values no single results are reported.

Conclusions:
The absorption (λmax) of test solutions (neutral, acid, basic) were detected at 244 nm and at 280 nm in the UV light range.
The maximun molar absorption coefficient of neutral solution was determined to be ɛ= 10600 L/mol/cm at λmax 244 nm and ɛ= 950 L/mol/cm at λmax 280 nm. No detectable absorption was found above 380 nm.
Executive summary:

In this guideline (OECD 101) study, the test material (EC 231-272-0) was determined to be light sensitive

Additional information

The UV-VIS spectrophotometry was used to determine the molar absorption coefficient (ɛ).

The maximum absorption (λmax) of test solutions (neutral, acid, basic) were detected at 244 nm and at 280 nm in the UV light range.

The molar extinction coefficient of neutral solution was determined to be ɛ= 10600 L/mol/cm at λmax 244 nm and ɛ= 950 L/mol/cm at λmax 280 nm. No detectable absorption was found above 380 nm.
