Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The effect of N-methylpiperidine was tested in 4 different neurologically relevant parameters: Local anaesthetic effect to an unnamed species; effect on the number and amplitude of stimuli on an unconditional reflex response in the CNS of rabbits; influence of the latent period of a conditional avoidance reflex in rats, shortening of hexobarbital sleeping time in mice.

No local anaesthetic effect, but a central stimulant action was demonstrated for 1-methylpiperidine. The unconditioned reflex reaction (referred to as "impulse summation" in CNS) was determined to be improved at the low dose tested (0.5 mg/kg bw), and impaired at higher doses (from 20 mg/kg bw). Additionlly, the latent period of avoidance reflex was shortened at the low dose investigated (1 mg/kg bw) and prolonged at the high dose (10 mg/kg bw). A shortening effect on hexobarbital (67 mg/kg bw) induced sleep by 16% was observed after treatment with 1-methylpiperidine

(6 mg/kg bw).

The study was not accessable (reliability 4) for assessment.
