Supporting Study shows value different from Key study which could be due to difference in the estimation conditions. However for the purpose of chemical safety assessment key study value 760 mg/l shall be considered.

Solubility in organic solvent / Fat solubility:

The experimental value of solubility of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one in ethanol at temperature of 27deg C was found to be 4200 mg/L indicating that 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is soluble in ethanol. Using the Soxhlet/Solvent extraction method the solubility of the substance in Petroleum ether is observed to be 40 mg/L at 27°C, indicating that the substance is slightly soluble in petroleum ether.

Surface tension

In accordance with coloumn 2 of Annex VII, this end point was waived since 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is a solid substance and surface activity is not a deisred proerty of the solid

Flash point

The experimental value of flash point of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl) ethan-1-one by the open cup method was found to be 158 degC at 966 hPa indicating that substance is not flammable. This value when converted for 101 325 pascal found to be equivalent to 165.72 degC.

Auto flammability

The autoignition temperature or kindling point of a substance is the lowest temperature at which it will spontaneously ignite in a normal atmosphere without an external source of ignition, such as a flame or spark. The auto ignition temperature of 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was determined in the laboratory but it was found that this chemical do not catch fire at room temperature of 27°C and atmospheric pressure of 966 hPa. Thus it can be concluded that 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is not auto flammable.

Flammability

1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one was found to be flammable when an igntition source having temperature of around 950°C was brought in close contact with it. However, such high temperature do not exist under normal conditions of use or transportation and hence 1-(6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)ethan-1-one is considered to be a non-flammable solid
