Principles of method if other than guideline:
The concentration of solvent in the treatments was 1.0 mL/L and therefore higher than stated in the guideline. As no inhibition was observed in the solvent control, this deviation was stated as uncritical. Additionally it was proven in several previously conducted experiments that a concentration of 1.0 mL/L acetone is uncritical for algal growth over a period of 72 hours.
