Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove the person to the fresh air. Seek medical advice of the person inhales large amounts of dust. Workers having respiratory diseases should not handle reactive dyes. If there are any complaints in connection with handling reactive dyes such as shortness of breath or asthma seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse immediately with plenty of water in order to avoid discolouring of the eye; if necessary seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Skin: Clean with large quantities of water, soap or other suitable agents which are kind to the skin. If irritation persists, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Drink plenty of water, if necessary with added activated charcoal. If the person feels unwell seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water fog, foam, dry extinguishing agent, carbon dioxide. There is no restriction. It is dependent on the extent of fire and the local surroundings.

Product arising from burning: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Protection suit and respirator (dependent on the extent of fire and the local surroundings).

Accidental release measures

Skin contact and inhalation of dusts and dye solutions should be avoided while accidentally spilt material is collected. Label waste containers accordingly. Persons performing appropriate cleaning are advised to observe the protective measures prescribed for handling of the substance. In the event of spilling granulated product, dust generation is best avoided by covering with moistened inert material in order to avoid dust formation. Dye solutions should be taken up with an appropriate absorbing material. Use an approved industrial vacuum cleaner to contain spilled material once absorbed. Waste containers should be marked appropriately and sent for disposal via a licensed waste contractor.

Handling and storage

Handling: The substance is considered safe for handling in for its intended use. Utilise safe filling and metering equipment which prevents contact with the substance must be ensured. Effective exhuast ventilation must be ensured during handling of the substance, in particular in the case of the formation of dusts or vapours/aerosols. Wear suitable protection clothes, gloves and goggles if skin or eye contact is possible. Dusts masks, e.g. filtrating half mask P1, goggles e.g. tightly fitting goggles, gloves e.g. polyethylene or polypropylene disposable gloves and protective clothing, e.g. normal working clothes must be worn. Change spoiled clothes. It is recommended that users observe the measures mentioned in "Guidelines for the safe handling of dyestuff in colour storerooms" from ETAD. Do not inhale the dust. Respiratory protection must be worn in the case of inadequate exhaust ventilation or prolonged exposure. Avoid skin contact. Persons with chronic respiration diseases should not handle reactive dyes. If there are any complaints such as shortness of breath or asthma in connection with the handling of reactive dyes seek medical attention. Avoid any contact with the dye in such cases.

Storage: Store dry and at room temperature in tightly closed containers. Keep store room according to principles of good industrial hygiene. Close broken containers tightly. Avoid residues on/at containers. Secure containrs against falling. Keep away from light. All of the opened packing drums must be closed tightly again after use. Store seperate from food, tobacco and alcohol.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Cardboard box with PE inner liner (30L / 35kg).

Special provisions / remarks
Remarks:
Transport: Keep containers tightly closed and in a dry place. Packing drums must be kept carefully closed during in-company transportation in order to avoid spillage of the substance. Secure the containers against falling. Seek common transport measures like safeguard against falling, attention to stack height and the labelling of containers. Label containers in accordance with the appropriate legislation.

Exposure controls / personal protection

The substance is not classified for hazardous effects, and as such, no hazards to either man or the environment and predicted. Standard risk management measures should be applied during use of the substance and products containing the substance. The folllowing Risk Management Measures are therefore recommended to facilitate good hygiene standards:

-Local Exhaust Ventilation, where available

-Hand Protection, such as chemically resistant gloves e.g. PVC or nitrile rubber (e.g. EN374)

-Protective Clothing, to EN368 standard as minimum

-Eye Protection, safety glasses with side-sheilds (frame goggles) (e.g. EN166)

-Respiratory Protection, with 95% reduction of inhaled substance when handling material that may generate dust. (e.g. EN149)

Stability and reactivity

The substance is considered stable when used in the manner for which it is intended.

Reactivity: Stable.

Danger other than fire: No risks are assumed for handling the substance.

Chemical reaction with water: Slow hydrolysis of the reaction component.

Dust explosion: The preparations are dust-poor granulates or liquid preparations. In the production process only solutions are used.

Dust explosion determined by test: N

Conditions to avoid: Avoid dust build up and heat, flames, sparks and other sources of ignition in case of dust explosivity hazard. Containers may rupture or explode if exposed to heat.

Hazardous Decomposition: Thermal decomposition products: Carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen flouride.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recyling: Recycling of used dyes is not possible. Wash waters from the dye process is recycled to minimise loss of product.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not known

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal is possible on seepage-proof waste disposal site in accordance with local regulations.

Industray - Possibility of destruction: incineration: Dry dyes may be incinerated. This results in the formation of the waste gases which normally occur during the incineration of organic compounds containing carbon, nitrogen and sulphur. Dependent on the quality of the dye which is to be incinerated, special flue-gas treatment may therefore be necessary. As a rule, dye run-offs are too diluted for incineration to be a sensible option. Incineration should be undertaken in compliance with associated legislation.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: Water purification: Organic dyes are not bio degradable (aerob) because of the short retention time. A dispose by the waste water should not be recommended. Also an accumulation at the sewage sludge is possible. Wastes from sewage plant processing should be incinerated.

Public at large - Possibiility of recovery/recycling: The public at large dose not come into contact with the substance in the case of use as intended. Use by the public at large only occurs in the form of the products produced from the substance (dyed products).

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: None known.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: The coloured products containing the susbtance only in little amounts could be disposed with the house waste onto a licensed disposal site by means of landfilling.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: incineration: Incineration is the preferred option for disposing of the dyed products which only contain the substance in small quantites.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: water purification: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: others: Not applicable.
