Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
(Q)SAR
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
results derived from a valid (Q)SAR model and falling into its applicability domain, with limited documentation / justification
Remarks:
A readacross approach was used in the QSAR toolbox
Justification for type of information:
1. SOFTWARE : OECD QSAR toolbox

2. MODEL (incl. version number) : 4.0

3. SMILES OR OTHER IDENTIFIERS USED AS INPUT FOR THE MODEL : OC(=O)CCNC(=O)c1ccc(cc1)N=Nc1ccc(O)c(c1)C(O)=O
CAS#: 80573-04-2
Chemical names
Balsalazide: Benzoic acid, 5-[(1E)-2-[4-[[(2-carboxyethyl)amino]carbonyl]phenyl]diazenyl]-2-h

4. SCIENTIFIC VALIDITY OF THE (Q)SAR MODEL
The model is the OECD QSAR toolbox, so by definition is considered as scientifically valid by the OECD.

5. APPLICABILITY DOMAIN
Active descriptor range, log Kow from 2.12 to 4.81, target chemical is in domain
Profilers:
-US-EPA New Chemical Categories (primary grouping), target chemical is in domain
See justification box for the prediction report from OECD QSAR toolbox

6. ADEQUACY OF THE RESULT
The result is considered adequate to show that the substance does not require classification for acute aquatic toxicity, based on expected acute toxicity to fish. In addition, a seperate QSAR prediction report was run based on 27 training sets, which produced a LC50 of approximately 9 mg/L supporting the readacross-QSAR. This is also included in the justification box.
Qualifier:
no guideline available
Principles of method if other than guideline:
- Software tool used including version: OECD QSAR Toolbox v. 4.0
- Model used: QSAR prediction for acute fish toxicity
- Model description: see field 'Justification for type of information'
- Justification of QSAR prediction: see field 'Justification for type of information'
GLP compliance:
no
Test organisms (species):
Pimephales promelas
Water media type:
freshwater
Total exposure duration:
96 h
Key result

Conclusions:
The OECD QSAR toolbox predicts a LC50 of > 1 mg/L for the substance. No acute classification is required based on this assessment.
