Description of key information

FAT 40840/A TE had a significant inhibitory effect on the growth (yield) of Scenedesmus subspicatus after the test period of 72 hours at the test concentrations of 2.1 mg/L (72-hour LOEC) and at all higher test concentrations. The 72-hour NOEC was determined to be 0.52 mg/L, since at this test concentration the growth rate and yield were not significantly lower than in the control.

This modified algal test has demonstrated that the inhibitory effect of the test item FAT 40840/A TE on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus was caused in part by the indirect effect, the light absorption in the colored test solutions. However, the differences between experimental parts A and B were too high to state that the algal growth inhibition is only a result of a reduction in light intensity. Therefore, the results of experimental part A should be taken into consideration for the determination of the inhibitory effect of the test item on the algal growth.
