Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Inhalation: Move affected person to fresh air at once. Get medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth thoroughly with water. Do not induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.
Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing immediately and wash skin with soap and water. Get medical attention promptly if symptoms occur after washing.
Eye contact: Rinse cautiously with water for at least 10 minutes. Remove any contact lenses and open eyelids wide apart. Continue to rinse. Get medical attention immediately.
Fire-fighting measures
Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media: Carbon dioxide (CO2). Powder. Water mist. Small fire: AFFF Foam. Large fire: Alcohol resistant foam.
Unsuitable extinguishing media: Do not use water jet as an extinguisher, as this will spread the fire.
Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Specific hazards: Closed containers may build up pressure at elevated temperatures. Remove if possible.
Hazardous combustion products: Thermal decomposition or combustion products may include the following substances: Carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon monoxide (CO).
Advice for firefighters
Protective actions during firefighting: Avoid breathing fire gases or vapours.
Special protective equipment for firefighters: Wear full protective clothing (PVA). Wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Accidental release measures
Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Personal precautions: Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Provide adequate ventilation. No smoking, sparks, flames or other sources of ignition near spillage.
Environmental precautions
Environmental precautions: Do not discharge into drains or watercourses or onto the ground. Inform the responsible authorities about penetration of larger quantities.
Methods and material for containment and cleaning up
Methods for cleaning up: Contain spillage with sand, earth or other suitable non-combustible material. Collect and place in suitable waste disposal containers and seal securely.
Handling and storage
Precautions for safe handling
Usage precautions: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid inhalation of vapours and spray/mists. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames and other ignition sources. No smoking. Static electricity and formation of sparks must be prevented. Provide adequate ventilation. Areas in which the substance is heated to above its flash point and processed are areas of fire hazard.
Advice on general occupational hygiene: Good personal hygiene procedures should be implemented.

Exposure controls / personal protection
- Appropriate engineering controls: Work areas should be physically separated if possible. Provision of good ventilation in the working area. The floor must be solvent resistant. The floor should not have a floor drain. Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with a clearly signposted eyewash facility and a safety shower.
Use closed apparatus if possible. If release of the substance cannot be prevented, then it should be suctioned of at the point of exit whenever indicated in the exposure scenario. Exhaust is especially required at higher temperatures. Consider emission limit values, a purification of waste gases if necessary. Label containers and pipelines clearly.
- Eye/face protection: Approved safety goggles.
- Hand protection: Chemical resistant gloves (PVC 0.5 mm, PVA 0.5 mm)
- Other skin and body protection: Wear apron or protective clothing in case of contact.
- Respiratory protection: Generally unnecessary in a well ventilated area. If ventilation is insufficient, respiratory protection must be worn: Half or full-faced mask with A filter, or self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Hygiene measures: Good personal hygiene procedures should be implemented. Foods, beverages and other articles of consumption must not be consumed at the work areas. Suitable areas are to be designated for these purposes. Avoid contact with skin. In case of contact wash skin. Avoid inhalation of vapour or mist. Avoid contact with clothing. Contaminated clothes must be exchanged and cleaned carefully. Increased risk of combustion from wicking. Provide washrooms with showers and if possible rooms with separate storage for street clothing and work clothing. The skin must be washed with soap and water before breaks and at the end of work. Apply fatty skin-care products after washing. Take care to maintain clean working place. The substance must not be present at workplaces in quantities above that required for work to be progressed. Do not leave container open. Sufficient ventilation must be guaranteed for refilling, transfer, or open use. Avoid splashing. Fill only into labelled container. Use solvent resistant utensils. Avoid any contact when handling the substance. Prevent seepage into flooring (use of a steel tub). Use an appropriate exterior vessel when transporting in fragile containers.
- Environmental exposure controls: Avoid discharging into drains.
