The substance Octene, hydroformylation products, high boiling is considered to be ultimately biodegradable.

Octene, hydroformylation products, high boiling is a UVCB consisting of a multitude of constituents that cannot be characterized properly. Therefore, a result from a screening test according to OECD TG 301 can technically speaking not be used to determine the readily biodegradability of a complex UVCB. However, a GLP guideline study according to OECD TG 301 B on the biodegradability of the test substance is available (BASF, 2008). The degradation rate of 80 -90 % after 28 days reveals a high degradation rate and that further degradation of the test substance can be expected. A GLP guideline study according OECD TG 301 B enhanced with prolonged test duration shows a degradation rate of 100% after 42 days (BASF, 2015). The result shows that 100% of the TOC of the UVCB – measured according to ISO 9439 - is mineralized within 42 days. In addition, the degradation rates of the OECD TG 301 B study in 2008 are well supported by the rates of the enhanced OECD TG 301 B test in 2015.   


Therefore, it can be concluded that the substance Octene, hydroformylation products, high boiling is ultimately biodegradable.
