Description of key information

N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate has a very high water solubility (178 g/L at 20°C), a vapor pressure ≤ 65 Pa at 20°C and a very low log Koc (0.63 at 25°C) . So the substance will be found mainly in the aquatic compartment.

Due to its very low log Kow (-2.8 at 20°C), it is not suspected of bioaccumulation.

This substance is neither readily biodegradable in a ready biodegradation test (14.3 % in 29 days) nor in a porous pot removal test over a 6 week period.

N,N-bis(2 -hydroxyethyl)-p-phenylenediamine sulphate is unstable under the conditions of the hydrolysis test with half-life of 7, 16 and 31 days at elevated temperature (i.e. 50 ± 0.5°C) and pH 4, 7 and 9, respectively. However due to the lack of hydrolysis functions, the observed degradation cannot be related to hydrolysis and it is probably due to another mechanism (e.g., oxidation or thermal stability). The half-life at environmental pH and 12°C is 334.5 days.
