If swallowed: Induce vomiting with saline solution for conscious and alert victims. Take victim immediately to hospital.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media: carbon dioxide, dry powder or foam.

Special hazards: Barium oxides, selenium/selenium oxides

Advice for firefighters: Wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do not allow fire-fighting water to enter the environment.

Accidental release measures

Personal Precautions: Evacuate all personnel immediately and ventilate area. Avoid breathing dust or vapours.

Environmental Precautions: Prevent further leakage if safe to do so. Do not let product enter drains or environment. Notify authorities if product enters sewers or public water.

Methods and materials for containment and clean-up: Sweep or vacuum spilled materials, avoid breathing dust. Dispose of as hazardous waste.  Ventilate and wash spill site with plenty of water whilst preventing run off from entering drains. Personnel must wear full protective equipment including breathing apparatus for clean-up.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust.

Conditions for safe storage: Store in a cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry well-ventilated area.  Barium selenate can be reduced to red elemental selenium in the presence of reducing agents and should not be allowed in contact with organic materials or dust particles. Do not store with acids. Do no expose to extreme heat.
