Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Potassium bromide is not considered toxic to invertebrates based on the LC50 value of >100 mg/L. The no-effect concentration was established as 100 mg/L .

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A key acute aquatic toxicity study was performed on daphnids in accordance with GLP and OECD Guideline 202. Following a range-finding study, groups (4 replicates of 10 daphnids/vessel) of Daphnia magna were exposed to potassium bromide at a concentration of 100 mg/L (nominal) for 48 h under static conditions. Control group (2 replicates of 10 daphnids/vessel) was also studied simultaneously. Immobilisation and any adverse reactions to exposure were observed at 24 and 48 h.

No mortalities or other adverse reactions were observed in daphnids exposed to the test material.

Under the test conditions, the 48-h EC50 for potassium bromide to Daphnia magna based on nominal test concentrations was greater than 100 mg/L and correspondingly the No Observed Effect Concentration was greater than or equal to 100 mg/L.
