Justification for classification or non-classification
Pyrophoric liquids are defined as liquid substances which, even in small quantities, are liable to ignite within five minutes of coming into contact with air.
Pyrophoric liquids are classified in a single category and classification in this cateory is determine by whether the substance ignites within five minutes when added to an inert carrier and exposed to air, or it ignites or chars a filter paper on contact with air within five minites.
The test substance, IFF 215 (Floriane) was assessed for pyrophoric properties using exposure to diatomaceous earth and to filter paper. The test substance did not spontaneously ignite during the test and is therefore considered to be non-pyrophoric.
