Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

An OECD TG 201 guideline study in compliance with GLP criteria with freshwater algae Raphidocelis subcapitata is available for the substance. Algae were exposed to treatments of 0 (negative control), 1.0, 3.2, 10, 32, 100 % v/v of a saturated solution (prepared at an initial 100 mg/L loading rate) under static conditions for 72 hours. Concentrations of the substance were analysed at 0 and 72 hours by HPLC and UV detection and were determined to be 0 (negative control), 0.0062, 0.011, 0.057, 0.20 and 0.72 mg/L. The test condition was maintained at 24 ± 1 °C and pH 7.5 – 8.2. The algal density was on average 7.43 E+05 cells/mL in the control after 72 hours. Water quality throughout the test was within acceptable limits. During 72 hours period the number of algal cells increased from initial densities of 4.87E+03, 6.07E+03 5.54E+03, 4.92E+03, and 4.43E+03 cells/mL in 0.0062, 0.011, 0.057, 0.20 and 0.72 mg/L, respectively, to 8.22E=05, 6.77E+05, 7.12E+05, 4.60E+05 and 3.75E+05 cells/mL. Exposure of algae to the substance for 72 hours resulted in a EC50 of > 0.72 mg/L when calculated using the average specific growth rate, 0.50 mg/L when calculated based on yield. The 72-h NOEC is 0.057 mg/L when determined using the growth rate or yield. The 72-h EC10 for growth rate was 0.41 mg/L was calculated separately from the report.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
0.72 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.41 mg/L
