Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Conclusions:
- The 48-hour NOEC (highest concentration tested without toxic effects after the 48-hour
exposure period) and the 48-hour ECO of NA 1523 to Daphnia magna were determined to be
at the nominal concentration of 1.0 mg/L. The 48-hour EC50 was between the nominal test
item concentrations of 1.0 and 10 mg/L. The 48-hour EC100 was at the nominal concentration of 10 mg/L. - Executive summary:
The acute toxicity of the test item NA 1523 to Daphnia magna was determined in three 48-hour static tests according to the EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Part C.2 (1992), and the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals, No. 202, Part I (1984).
On request of the Sponsor, the test concentrations of 100, 10 and 1 mg NA 1523 per Iiter and a control were tested. The 10 mg/L concentration was tested in a second test with an additional control, and the 1.0 mg/L concentration was tested in a third test with an additional control.
On request of the Sponsor, no analytical verification of test item concentrations was performed. Therefore, all reported results are related to the nominal concentrations of the test item. At the test item concentrations of 100 and 10 mg/L, all daphnids were immobile within 48 hours of exposure.
At the test item concentration of 1.0 mg/L and in the controls, no significant number of immobilized daphnids was observed during the 48-hour test period. The 48-hour NOEC (highest concentration tested without toxic effects after the 48-hour exposure period) and the 48-hour ECO of NA 1523 to Daphnia magna were determined to be at the nominal concentration of 1.0 mg/L. The 48-hour EC50 was between the nominal test item concentrations of 1.0 and 10 mg/L. The 48-hour EC 100 was at the nominal concentration of 1 0 mg/L.
The biological test results were (based an all three tests):
- 48-hour EC50: 3.2 mg/L 95% confidence Iimits: 1.0 - 10 mg/L
- 48-hour ECO and 48-hour NOEC: 1.0 mg/L
- 48-hour EC100: 10 mg/L
