New CLH consultations launched on two pesticides
ECHA has started a 45-day public commenting period on the harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) proposals for the pesticides pencycuron and benzovindiflupyr. Both substances do not yet have a harmonised classification.
Pencycuron is used as a fungicide on potatoes as a seed treatment, and the dossier submitter, the Netherlands, is proposing classification for environmental hazards. Benzovindiflupyr is proposed for use as a fungicide in the EU. The dossier submitter, France, is proposing classification for acute toxicity (via oral and inhalation routes) and environmental hazards. For both substances physical hazards, health hazards (except respiratory sensitisation) and environmental hazards will be open for commenting, and will be reviewed by the Committee for Risk Assessment. The deadline for submitting comments is the 13 June 2014.
Benzovindiflupyr is currently also in the approval process under Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 concerning the placing on the market of plant protection products. A public consultation on the DAR will be launched in May 2014. ECHA encourages interested parties to participate in the EFSA consultation on benzovindiflupyr and to provide consistent comments under the two consultation procedures.
