Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The distribution and elimination of TMAC in Sewage Treatment Plants as calculated by SimpleTreat 3.0 (incorporated in EUSES 2.1.2) is as follows:
Fraction to air: 0%
Fraction to water: 2%
Fraction to sewage sludge: 4.81%
Fraction degraded: 93.19%
Executive summary:

The distribution and elimination of TMAC in Sewage Treatment Plants was calculated by SimpleTreat 3.0 (incorporated in EUSES 2.1.2).

Based on results of ready biodegradability tests with the structurally related substance TMAOH (see read-across justification in IUCLID section 13), TMAC can be considered readily biodegradable and in a simulation study with TMAC >98% removal from waste water was demonstrated (Ripley and Hossain, 1997). In this study only concentrations in influent and effluent were measured. In EUSES 2.1.2 a percentage to sludge was calculated based on an average Koc of 546 as determined by Brands (2013) and setting the substance as ready biodegradable. This percentage was subtracted from the overall removal of >98% to obtain a fraction that was degraded.

The calculated distribution and elimination of TMAC in Sewage Treatment Plants is as follows:

Fraction to air: 0%

Fraction to water: 2%

Fraction to sewage sludge: 4.81%

Fraction degraded: 93.19%
