Additional information

The aerobic degradation of N,N,N',N'-tetramethyltrimethylenediamine (TMPDA) has been assessed according to OECD 310 guideline and GLP requirements during 60 days (BASF, 2013). The degree of biodegradation of the test substance at the end of exposure was 23 ± 7% TIC/TOC. As a supporting study, a test according to OECD 301A guideline has been performed (Arkema, 1995). The results have shown that less than 10 % of the substance is degraded after 28 days. The substance was shown not toxic to microorganisms.

Thus, the substance is considered as not readily biodegradable.

Two other tests have been performed according to OECD 302B guideline. 99% of degradation (DOC removal) was observed after 20 -21 days (BASF, 1985 and 1987). Nevertheless, these both studies have been disregarded since activated sludge taken from a BASF waste water treatment plant treating industrial sewage were used. It can be concluded that TMPDA is not persistent since the substance is completely degraded with adapted inoculum.
