Additional information

Valid acute aquatic toxicity studies in three freshwater species from different trophic levels are available for the substance 4'-methylacetophenone. According to the test results, aquatic invertebrates are most sensitive to acute exposure to the substance when compared to algae and fish. Fish were found to be least sensitive with regard to acute exposure to the substance. In the absence of long-term toxicity data and following the rules of PNEC derivation, the lowest L(E)C50 value from the available acute aquatic toxicity studies will be used further in the hazard assessment, i.e. the 72-hour EC50 value in daphnids of 31 mg/L. The substance did not inhibit the microbial activity in a ready biodegradability test at 100 mg/L and this concentration is used as the NOEC for effects on microbial activity in the hazard assessment.
