- Justification:
Based on the expected releases and partitioning behavior of MV 31, laboratory studies on the biodegradation and bioaccumulation in the water, sediment and soil compartments are not relevant for the evaluation of PBT properties of this substance. An evaluation of its fate in the environment shows that it will not be present in terrestrial or aquatic compartments due to release patterns, volatility and water solubility. MV 31 is, therefore, not persistent in these media. The “B” criterion in aquatic organisms is not met due to lack of exposure. MV 31 does not induce at least a 50% effect on aquatic organisms at the limit of media solubility. Data from mammalian studies indicate that this substance is not toxic to mammals and the calculated KOA indicates that MV 31 will not bioaccumulate in air-breathing organisms. Therefore, MV 31 does not fulfill the criteria for bioaccumulative (“B”) or very bioaccumulative (“vB”) or toxic (“T”).
The overall conclusions of the preliminary PBT assessment, based on available data, are that the criteria for PBT/vPvB are not met based on expert judgment and laboratory data. Further testing to confirm lack of bioaccumulation and chronic aquatic toxicity is not deemed necessary due to lack of exposure.
