20 °C
Conc.:
76.1 mg/L
Remarks on result:
other: Surface tension 50.69 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.04 mN/m). Concentration is 90 % of the saturated aqueous solution concentration.

Due to the fact that the surface tension is < 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as a surface-active substance.

Based on the measured water solubility value of 84.5 mg/L at 20 °C, the concentation of a 90 % saturated aqueous solution of the test item is 76.1 mg/L.

The density of the 90 % saturated aqueous solution of the test item in double distilled water was determined in a preliminary measurement to be 1.000 g/cm3 (20.2 °C).

The surface tension of the reference item n-heptane was determined on 2014-08-19 as 20.07 ± 0.01 mN/m (20 °C) and is within the acceptable range of 20.23 ± 0.22 mN/m.

Validity Criteria: The temperature of the test solution had to be 20 ± 0.5 °C.

Conclusions:
The surface tension of a 90 % saturated aqueous solution (76.1 mg/L) of 1,3-dimethyl-3-phenylbutyl acetate was determined to be 50.69 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.04) at 20 ºC. As the surface tension is < 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as a surface-active substance.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of a 90 % saturated aqueous solution (76.1 mg/L) of 1,3 -dimethyl-3-phenylbutyl acetate was determined to be 50.69 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.04) at 20 ºC. As the surface tension is < 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as a surface-active substance. The surface tension was determined using the harmonised ring method according to OECD guideline 115 (2015). The study is considered reliable and relevant for use for this endpoint.

Description of key information

The surface tension of a 90 % saturated aqueous solution (76.1 mg/L) of 1,3-dimethyl-3-phenylbutyl acetate was determined to be 50.69 mN/m (standard deviation ± 0.04) at 20 ºC. As the surface tension is < 60 mN/m, the test item is classified as a surface-active substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Surface tension:
50.69
in mN/m at 20°C and concentration in mg/L:
76.1

Additional information

The surface tension was determined using the harmonised ring method according to OECD guideline 115 (2015). The study is considered reliable and relevant for use for this endpoint.
