Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Reference
Endpoint:
short-term toxicity to fish
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
February 29, 1980 to March 07, 1980
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
comparable to guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
No guideline was available at that time. The method is similar to the OECD guidelines, except for essentially other species are preferred nowadays and analytical determinations were not performed in this study.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Analytical monitoring:
no
Vehicle:
yes
Details on test solutions:
Due to the low water solubilty the test substance was suspended with water using an Ultra-Turrax and was added into the test chambers under stirring. The total amounts of test substance in the chambers were 0, 1, 10, 100 and 500 mg/l. The concentration refers to the whole amount of substance brought into the vessels, and not only to the dissolved part of it.
Test organisms (species):
Leuciscus idus melanotus
Details on test organisms:
Species: Goldorfe (Leuciscus idus f. melanotus)
Body weight: 1.5 to 2.5 g; mean = 2.0 g.
Body length: 5.5 - 6.4 cm; mean = 6.0 cm.

Origin: Paul Eggers, 2345 Hohenwestedt, Germany
Food: Tetra Min, Tetra Werke, Melle (Germany)
Acclimatisation: at least 14 d in chlorine-free tap water at 20 °C, before the start at the exposure.
Testing water: Deionised tap water with a conductivity of <5µS/cm. Addition of the following salts per liter:
192 mg NaHC03
120 mg CaSO4 • 2H2O
120 mg MgSO4
8 mg KCl

10 fish per test concentration were used.

Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
96 h
Hardness:
Total hardness: 9.5 °d,
Carbonate hardness: 6.4 °d
Test temperature:
20 +/- 1 °C.
pH:
6.3 - 8.2. The low pH of 6.3 was determined in the 500 mg/L group.
Dissolved oxygen:
7.2 - 8.0 mg/L.
Salinity:
No.
Nominal and measured concentrations:
0 - 1 - 10 - 100 - 500 mg/L nominal.
The concentration refers to the whole amount of substance brought into the vessels, and not only to the dissolved part of it.
Details on test conditions:
Test conditions:
The study was conducted in a static system. The test chambers were made of glass (length 40 cm, width 25 cm, height 30 cm) and were filled with 20 l water. The temperature of the water bath was regulated by a thermostat to 20 +/- 1 °C. The water was aerated through glas capillaries with ca. 100 mL/min. The chambers were illuminated from above in a 12 hours rhythm. The illumination intensity directly over the chambers was approximately 700 lux.

Test procedure:
65 hours before study start 10 fishes were added to each chamber. The inspection of the water parameters (pH, O2 and temperature) took place directly before application of the test substance, after 2, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours.
Fish were examined regularly. At the end of the exposure the fish were dissected and macroscopically examined.
Reference substance (positive control):
no
Key result
Duration:
96 h
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
> 500 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality (fish)
Details on results:
Lethality:
In this 96-hour acute toxicity study of 7-ACS no lethality occurred.
Observations:
The fish showed no changes in behavior in the tested groups during the entire exposure time.
Macroscopic observations:
No changes in appearance of the dead fishes could be observed.
Validity criteria fulfilled:
not specified
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this test the LC50 of 7-ACA after 48 and 96 hours was >500 mg/L (nominal concentration).
Executive summary:

A static test with Leuciscus idus was performed. The LC50 and LC10 of 7-ACA after 48 and 96 hours was >500 mg/L (nominal concentration).

Description of key information

The LC50 is >500 mg/L.
