Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Specific details on test material used for the study:
- Identification: TAOBN
- Purity: 99.9%
- Appearance: White to pale yellow crystals
- Batch: 677700
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Duration of test (contact time):
> 180 s
Key result
Sample tested:
1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
154 s
Key result
Sample tested:
4:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio
Parameter:
mean burning time
Result:
> 180 s

A test item is considered an oxidizing substance when the burning time of a mixture of the substance and cellulose in a 4:1 or 1:1 sample-to-cellulose ratio (by mass) is less than or equal to the mean burning time of a 3:7 reference mixture (by mass) of potassium bromate and cellulose.

The mean burning time of the 3:7 reference mixture was 110 seconds.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
The mean burning time of both test item mixtures was more than the mean burning time of the 3:7 (w/w) reference mixture. Based on the results obtained it was concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Description of key information

The mean burning time of both test item mixtures was more than the mean burning time of the 3:7 (w/w) potassium bromate:cellulose reference mixture.  Based on the results obtained it was concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Oxidising properties:
non oxidising

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The mean burning time of both test item mixtures was more than the mean burning time of the 3:7 (w/w) potassium bromate:cellulose reference mixture.  Based on the results obtained it was concluded that the test item has no oxidizing properties. Therefore, the test item does not meet the criteria for CLP EC 1272/2008 classification as an oxidizing solid.
