Description of key information

Freshwater aquatic toxicity studies with 1,6-Hexandiol dimethacrylate was conducted in fish. Aquatic toxicity in invertebrates and alga were calculated by OECD Toolbox based on valid own company experimental data of methacrylates with an unspecific mechanism.

Short-term toxicity to fish

In a 96-h acute toxicity study, Brachydanio rerio were exposed to 1,6 -Hexanediol dimethacrylateat 0 (control), 1.1, 2.1, 3.7, 6.7 and 12.0 mg/L nominal concentrations under semi-static conditions. The 96-h LC50 was 4.5 mg a.i./L (95% confidence limt: 3.88 - 5.28 mg/L) based on mortality effects. The effect concentrations refer to the nominal concentrations.

Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

EC50 Daphnia magna (48h) of 1,6 -Hexanediol dimethacrylate (11.2 mg/L) is predicted from category members (Methacrylates with an unspefic mechanism) using trend analysis based on 12 values within the range 2.57 - 380 mg/L from 12 category members. Category members are single chemicals and are selected based on the profile of the target chemical. Only chemicals having experimental data are listed in the category. The target chemical FALLS within applicability domain of the prediction. The data used for calculating the current prediction is taken from 12 experimental values selected from the following database(s): ECHA CHEM

Toxicity to aquatic algae

EC50 Alga (72h) of 1,6-Hexandiol dimethacrylate (5.33 mg/L) is predicted from category members using trend analysis based on 17 values within the range 0.0169 - 1.03E+03 mg/L from 17 category members. Category members are single chemicals and are selected based on the profile of the target chemical. Only chemicals having experimental data are listed in the category.

The target chemical FALLS within applicability domain of the prediction. The data used for calculating the current prediction is taken from 30 experimental values selected from the following database(s): ECHA CHEM

Chronic toxicity to aquatic algae

NOEC Alga (72h) of 1,6-Hexanediol dimethacrylate (1.11 mg/L) is predicted from category members using trend analysis based on 16 values within the range 0.0120 - 460 mg/L from 16 category members.

Category members are single chemicals or mixtures and are selected based on the profile of the target chemical. Only chemicals having experimental data are listed in the category.

The target chemical FALLS within applicability domain of the prediction. The data used for calculating the current prediction is taken from 28 experimental values selected from the following database(s): ECHA CHEM

Chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

NOEC Daphnia (21d) of 1,6-Hexanediol dimethacrylate (0.488 mg/L) is predicted from category members using trend analysis based on 14 values within the range 0.0542 - 45.2 mg/L from 14 category members. Category members are single chemicals or mixtures and are selected based on the profile of the target chemical. Only chemicals having experimental data are listed in the category.

The target chemical FALLS within applicability domain of the prediction (see Section 4.3 for details).

Toxicity to microorganisms

In a valid growth inhibition test according (Pseudomonas putida) to DIN EN ISO 10712 (1), 1995 after a contact time of 16 h, the EC0 was determined to be greater than 800 mg/L. Up to the highest nominal test concentration of 800 mg/L, 1,6-HDDMA had no effects (neither inhibition nor stimulation) on the growth of Pseudomonas putida.
