Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

As tetrachlorophthalic anhydride hydrolyses rapidly in water and any decomposition is not taken into account by the estimation program used for modelling of the transport and distribution behaviour for the substance, results for tetrachlorophthalic anhydride are only of theoretical interest.

Therefore, the sorption capacity of tetrachlorophthalic acid (CAS 632-58-6), the hydrolysis product of tetrachlorophthalic anhydride, was estimated by the EPI Suite software KOCWIN. A Koc of 0.1243 for the deprotonated form indicates that the substance is not even adsorptive concerning the ionised form.

A calculated Henry´s Law Constant of 6.67E-08 Pa m³/mole documented no potential of the hydrolysis product tetrachlorophthalic acid to leave the aquatic compartment.

The distribution of the hydrolysis product tetrachlorophthalic acid in a "unit world" was calculated according to the Mackay fugacity model level I based on the physico-chemical properties. The main target compartment for tetrachlorophthalic acid is water with 79.8 %, followed by soil and sediment with 10%.
