Description of key information

Tert-butyl methacrylate is not readily biodegradable, but readily biodegradable under enhanced conditions according to OECD criteria (68% in 60 days, OECD 310)

Additional information

Tert-butyl methacrylate is not readily biodegradable, but readily biodegradable under enhanced conditions according to OECD criteria (68% in 60 days, OECD 310). (BASF, 2010).

QSAR calculations (Catalogic) of the parent compound predicted a primary half life of 1month 27 days and an ultimiate half life of 2 months 3days.

Two main metabolites with quantities above 0.1 % were identified by QSAR calculations, which can be considered as readily biodegradable (BASF, 2021)

Based on this weight of evidence the tert-butyl methacrylate is determined to be inherently biodegradable, fulfilling the criteria.
