Description of key information

Three reliable short-term toxicity studies in fish (Klimisch 1) are available for the test substance, Dantocol DHE. All three studies followed internationally accepted study guidelines and were conducted according to GLP.

Two of the studies assessed the short-term toxicity to fish of the test substance, Dantocol DHE. Both the study with rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) and the study with zebra fish (Danio rerio) were run at the single nominal test concentration of 100 mg/L and provided 96-hour LC50 values of >100 mg/L based on nominal test concentrations of Dantocol DHE (Goodband and Mullee (2007) and Zhao (2007), respectively).

A prolonged toxicity study in zebra fish (Danio rerio) of Dantocol DHE was conducted on a semi-static basis, over 14 days. The study was run at the single nominal test concentration of 100 mg/L with test substance renewal every 48 hours. The 14-day NOEC (mortality) was 100 mg/L based on nominal test concentrations. Visual observations were made over the 14 day period for any toxic signs, none were observed. The weight and length of the fish were measured at day 0 and at study termination. No interpretation of weight and length data is provided in the report, however visual inspection of the results indicates no difference between the control and exposed groups over the 14 time period.

The results of all three studies are consistent and demonstrate that the test substance, Dantocol DHE, does not cause significant toxicity to freshwater fish, under the conditions of the test.
