For 2,4,4(or 2,4,4)-trimethylhexa-1,6-diisocyanate a study on ready biodegradability is available.


The biodegradability of the test substance was examined in a "CO2 Evolution test" according to EU-Method C.5 (Hüls AG 1993) and Draft OECD-Guideline "301 B CO2 Evolution-Test". CO2 was bound in aqueous NaOH solution and was measured at various timepoints over a period of 28 days. The test item was observed to be "not readily biodegradable" under the present test conditions (29% biodegradation within 28 days).


No further test data on degradation in sediment or soil are available. As exposure of the substance into the environment is low. The substance hydrolses rapidly upon contact with moisture, further tests on biodegradation do not seem to be necessary as hydrolysis is the main process for depletion.
