Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

Phototransformation in air

Estimated half-lives for the components of this UVCB substance range from 3.5 to 14.3 hours (Dow, 2010).

Hydrolysis

Ethane-1,2 -diol, propoxylated, is found to be stable at 50°C at all three pH values (4, 7 and 9). Therefore, it can be assumed that the test item is also stable at 25°C and no half-life times and hydrolysis rates were calculated. Ethane-1,2 -diol, propoxylated as a NLP contains different molecular weight fractions (= NLP-fraction) which behave similar in hydrolysis reaction (Currenta, 2009).

Biodegradation

Within 28 days, a degradation of 87% was determined for Ethane-1,2 -diol, propoxylated; hence Ethane-1,2 -diol, propoxylated is considered to be "Readily Biodegradable" (Currenta, 2009).

Biodegradation in water and sediment

Data waiving:

In accordance with REACH Annex XI, degradation simulation testing in water and/or sediment does not need to be conducted as from the chemical safety assessment it can be concluded that there is no risk for the aquatic compartment. A further refinement of the PECs using additional information on the degradation of the substance and its degradation products in water and sediment is therefore not required.

Biodegradation in soil

Data waiving:

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX, degradation simulation testing in soil does not need to be conducted. The substance is used exclusively in manufacture of polymers/elastomers, where it is completely reacted into these products; and as a result will have no direct or indirect exposures to the soil environment.

Bioaccumulation: aquatic / sediment

Data waiving:

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for bioaccumulation (log Kow ≤3).

Adsorption / desorption

In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex IX, the study does not need to be conducted as the substance can be expected to have a low potential for sorption (log Kow ≤3).
